Keystone Canyon Trail Update & Upcoming Trail Days

If you have been up Keystone Canyon lately you may have noticed some new switchbacks climbing up the eastern side of the canyon.Last week the Washoe County Parks had a professional trail builder from Marin County with a sweco trail dozer cut a trail alignment from Evans Canyon over to Keystone Canyon, then up to the USFS ridge. It will become a section of the desired (as expressed in the recent greenways & open pace plan) east-west dirt link from Rancho San Rafael to Verdi. If you have a chance go check it out. It ventures into some new terrain, has some post card shots with city of Reno in the background and adds more length to the currently used trail.

On October 6 & 7 we will have two follow up work days to do the very important finish work. Much easier than cutting trail, will be dispersing the down slope, adding some rock chokes, doing some work on the turns where the machine couldn’t get and putt jute netting on the roads we want to disappear.

Hope you might be able to join us. The volunteer match (volunteer hours) is really important for the grant money to be applied to, and makes future grants easier to get.

If you can help please send an email to RSVP so we can plan for food and drink accordingly.

Also if you have done some trail work with us in the past and would like to be a crew leader, pass that along also.
